The Misrata Free Zone (MFZ) recently signed an agreement for consulting services with Singapore’s Surbana Jurong Consulting Group (SJCP).

SJCP is a large global consulting company with a specialisation in infrastructure and urban development.

The MFZ is in the process of strengthening its position as an international trade and transit gateway for Africa, Europe and the rest of the world. It is understood that SJCP has significant experience in this regard, having implemented similar projects and solutions in more than 60 countries and across 100 free and industrial zones and ports.

Under the agreement, SJCP will develop a general strategy for the MFZ, including identifying key industries and businesses that can establish in the MFZ and how to attract them, and also work on the expansion of its seaport.

The MFZ’s plans fall in line with Libya’s overarching aim to re-emerge as an economic and commercial hub in the region, and to connect European and African trade. This will certainly be an area to watch, with many opportunities for infrastructure companies set to appear.
